If you’ve been wondering what to expect from your first aesthetics consultation, you’re not alone. Many people feel nervous or unsure before their initial appointment, but a good consultation should feel calm, reassuring and centred entirely around you.
Here’s a clear guide to what happens during your first aesthetics consultation at Dermaline Aesthetics.
1. A warm welcome and a relaxed start
Your consultation begins with a friendly, unhurried chat. There’s no pressure and no judgement. This is your chance to talk openly about your concerns, how long they’ve bothered you and what you’re hoping to achieve.
2. We talk through your medical history
Safety always comes first. I’ll ask about medications, allergies, medical conditions, previous procedures and any skin sensitivities. This helps determine which treatments are appropriate — and which are not.
3. A detailed skin and facial assessment
Next, I’ll assess your skin and facial structure. Depending on your goals, this may include:
- skin texture, hydration and pigmentation
- volume changes
- muscle movement for anti-wrinkle treatments
- symmetry and proportions
- any signs of sensitivity or inflammation
This part is gentle and focused on understanding what your skin needs.
4. We discuss suitable treatment options
Once I understand your goals, I’ll explain the treatments that would work best for you. These may include skincare recommendations, microneedling, RF microneedling, skin boosters, anti-wrinkle injections, fillers, laser or IPL.
I’ll also explain what won’t help your concern — honest advice is essential for natural, safe results.
5. You’ll receive a personalised plan
By the end of your consultation, you’ll have a clear, step-by-step plan designed around your concerns, lifestyle, budget and long-term goals. Some patients prefer a subtle, gradual approach, while others want a more active treatment plan — both are absolutely fine.
6. We discuss safety, side effects and downtime
Before any treatment, I’ll go through:
- expected results
- common side effects
- possible complications
- downtime and aftercare
You can ask as many questions as you like — nothing is rushed.
7. There is never any pressure
A consultation is not a commitment. You are free to take time to think, ask more questions or choose not to proceed. My role is to provide clear, medically-led guidance so you can make an informed choice.
8. Same-day treatment (if appropriate)
Some treatments can be done on the same day, depending on your medical history, the type of treatment and whether a prescription is required. If not, we’ll plan your appointment for another day.
9. You’ll know exactly what comes next
You’ll leave knowing:
- your treatment options
- expected results
- how long results last
- what the plan involves
- time and cost commitments
No guesswork — just clarity and confidence.
Why consultations matter
Aesthetic treatment should never be rushed or chosen from a menu. Your skin, health and goals are unique, and your plan should be too. A consultation gives us the time to understand what truly matters to you and create a natural, subtle result that still looks like you.
